Meet John McKenzie
John McKenzie is the owner and founder of The Build It Group. Using a unique and proven business model, John McKenzie leads the team as they guide clients through what are often the most significant financial decisions of their lives. As a Realtor®, New Construction, and Affordable Housing professional, John leverages his experienced gained through his successful corporate career as he follows his passion for assisting clients interested in residential and investment properties.
Prior to making his transition into residential real estate, John McKenzie served as Vice President of Corporate Real Estate and as Project Manager for more than 25 years in construction, facility, and process management, where he played an instrumental role in hundreds of projects throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. His attention to detail, analytical insight of contracts, markets, and exceptional negotiation skills have resulted in 250+ successful transactions valuing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Well-versed in the 4 Cs of buying a new home (choice, contract, construction, closing), John McKenzie advocates strongly on behalf of every client. His advanced knowledge of construction, complex transactions and investment strategy benefit all types of customers, including those relocating, first-time buyers, empty nesters and investors. Regardless of transaction size or kind, John’s primary goal is always to exceed expectations with responsiveness, representation, and professionalism—while yielding results.
He remains an active member of the Dallas Builders Association and Texas Affiliation Affordable Housing Providers so he can continually update clients on trends, availability, and pricing strategies for New Construction and Affordable Housing communities throughout North Texas. Throughout his career, he has earned credentials as Project Manager Professional (PMP), Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE), Texas Affordable Housing Specialist (TAHS), and Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES).
In both his personal and professional life, John looks to help others succeed whenever possible. When not working, he and his youngest daughter give their time as volunteers to Habitat for Humanity and North Texas Food Bank.
